First Mustang Owner… #Mustangcrushmonday Week 8

Click here to see a bright little video about the world’s first Mustang owner.   Her name is Gail Wise. She bought the car when she was 22 and still owns it today. She seems like quite a gal, and wouldn’t you know it she was a school teacher! Of course there is tons of stuff out there on Gail, but to read more about Ford’s first Mustang sold click here.

Here’s a little-known fact about me: I carry the VIN #s to my dad’s 79 Trans AM, his 63 Corvette, and my 03 Mustang in my wallet. You never know…

Here are some random thoughts to end the week.

I guess it was around Tuesday, out doing errands, when I thought to myself, “why is everyone driving so slow?” Then I realized they were doing the speed limit.

At one of my stops this week, in search of all things perfect for BFF Yvonne’s birthday, I discovered that craft people really are awesome and come up with brilliant ideas. You know the kind that you konk yourself on the head and say, “I wish I would have thought about that.”

Here is a clever cookie product. The kit comes with cookie cutters in the shape of VW cars and wheels on which to stand the decorated cookie.  In true Nuessle fashion there must be a police car somewhere close behind.

At yet another stop this past week, the grocery store in particular, I became suspicious that I might have a secret admirer. What are the chances that another white car with red stripes would choose to park sooooo far from the entrance? Opinions welcome on ‘who does it best’.

On Friday I drove out to my brother and sister-in-law’s house to drop off a CD (you don’t call them mixed tapes anymore, so what do you call them?) that I had made for them. It’s all about the drive!

Finally, as I was coming home from Yvonne’s this morning, traveling down my favorite 61/67, the dash was relaying ever-changing information. Much to my delight my little beast mustered its way up to 20 MPG. Hooray for mediocre gas mileage in a muscle car!

I guess that’s about as random as it gets!

Stoplight Odds …#Mustangcrushmonday Week 6

While investigating my stoplight odds I found out a few interesting tidbits about the badging on the 2015 Mustang.  Here is a brief pictorial:

A V6, 3.7L with a base price of $23,xxx has a horse on front, horse on back with background stripes, nothing on the side.

The Ecoboost model has 2.3L engine and a base price of $25,xxx.  Horse on front and back, nothing on the side.

The 5.0 GT   has a horse on the front with a grill different from the first two, GT on the back, and a delightful 5.0 on the side.  Base is $32,xxx.  It’s badging and horsepower remains the same in the premium version.

Opting for the anniversary package does not change the horse power options as the 5.0s have 435 nice little horses.  However, it does alter the base which is $40,xxx.  Notice the metal across the front, and GT 50 YEARS on the back.

There are definitely 2015 Mustangs that I should shy away from at the light, but the chances of seeing one anytime soon is pretty slim.  Here is a very cool Rocket with 725HP!

Please provide comments/additional information on the badging of the 2015 Mustang.

We Don’t Hide Crazy!

sweettea54

It’s been a great summer in spite of many days of rainfall.  Meaning many car washes to the new beast.  Of course it wouldn’t be summer without the annual trip to Tennessee with BFF Yvonne.  Our time was  filled with laughter, adventure, and the affirmation that joy holds more meaning when shared with your besty.

As you will soon see this blog post is more of a collage than an editorial.

We stayed in a fabulous hotel just a ways from the small town of Franklin.  Here is the view from our 10th floor room.

Oh, those Tennessee mountains!

Oh, those Tennessee mountains!

Beautiful Skies

And there was shopping, shopping, and more shopping.  The Yeti cooler seems to be made popular by Chris Jansen and his song “It Can Buy Me a Boat”.

While the hotel provided breakfast each morning and kick-off happy hour each evening we enjoyed a few of the local restaurants.  Pucketts  was a sure fire fix for southern BBQ, complete with its banjo ceiling fans. Marridees was more hustle and bustle with homemade breads and desserts.

And Chuy’s (our favorite) was a delightful mix of delicious Mexican food and superb customer service.  Colin was a perfect representation of southern charm and hospitality.  Of all those we met during our travel to Tennessee he was by far the most memorable.  The closest Chuy’s is in Kansas city.  You might want to try it, but good luck hoping to find another server like Colin.

Additional highlights from our trip included a tour of the Lotz House, a sing-along bus tour of downtown Nashville, and The Grand Ole Opry.

A few phrases worth mentioning…

I am so incredibly fortunate to have such a unique and timeless relationship with my best friend Yvonne.  Our antics, heartaches, laughter, and tears have moved along at the perfect speed for over thirty years.  I love you Yvonne.  Here’s to many more miles of traveling down life’s highway together.  Thank goodness we don’t hide crazy!

STREET LEGAL-ish #mustangcrushmonday Week 4

STREET LEGAL-ish

STREET LEGAL-ish

Leave it to Ford, Ford Dealers, and advertising in general to improve on my love for the open road…with billboards. This #mustangcrushmonday was inspired by one I saw while traveling home from Nashville, TN.  It just happened to be that of a meaty little 2015 titled STREET LEGAL-ish.    Here are just a few that I’ve found on the internet.  Be sure to click on each pic!

Next, a slideshow with a few from back in the day!

And finally…two of my favorites.

Full Blown … #mustangcrushmonday Week 4

dad

Modifications for this family meant racing on the weekend and making the car ready to get groceries on Monday.

Modify…. that’s a pretty open-ended term. I’m just a gal with a car that I ordered from my beloved Dave Sinclair Ford. My new mustang is so awesome and I look forward to driving  it into the next 10 years. However, I met a guy today that has his own 2015 Mustang, said he modified it, but keeps his parts so he can be sure his warranty is still in tact.   Am I naive to think this is dishonest? (Shhhh the car was dirty, too). I’m all for modifying. Change your hotrod, muscle car, fixer-upper and make it run like the wind, sound like there’s a storm a brewin’, and rumble to the point that your heart rate changes. If you modify, then own it.  But change it then change it back so your dealer won’t know? Don’t make it about the two faces of speed.

Maybe I could have found out a bit more had the conversation gone on a bit longer, but this guy wouldn’t even turn around and make eye contact. Hey bud, respect the car, respect the driver. He knew the other Mustang out there was mine, but I didn’t get a good “we’re Mustang owners” vibe from him. My personal opinion, if I modify my car the whole world will know it. I’ll be proud, and won’t be afraid to blow my warranty by putting a blower on my engine. For now, I’ll just keep driving my bad-ass stock Mustang, hoping to meet up with some pansy who’s driving his in-between version of off the lot and off the lift. And…hey!…-look at me when we’re talking about cars…I love them way more than you can imagine.

Here are a few noteworthy pics.  I purposely did not take a picture of the “fool you now, fool you later” Mustang that I met today.

Modifications left to the imagination!  This is a lovely version of driving proud.

farfetchedJust a bit far fetched, almost like a Hot Wheel Tuner Car.  But I wouldn’t mind seeing it at the track.

Thanks for considering this week’s submission of #mustangcrushmonday

Please let me know what you think of modifying a brand new car, how far will you go, etc.

#mustangcrushmonday Week 3

The new 2015 Ford Mustang comes with it a very special feature…the Toggle Switches.  In order from left to right we have Hazard Lights, Traction Mode, Steering Mode, and Driving Mode.

Hazards are self explanatory.

Traction Mode includes ON for the quick take off and OFF for the impressive burnout.

Steering Mode includes STANDARD, SPORT, and COMFORT.  As yet, I have not experimented with this feature.  I’ve been too busy enjoying the last toggle…

Driving Mode is comprised of NORMAL, SPORT+, TRACK, and SNOW/WET.  Of course my favorite is SPORT+ as it transforms the car completely from beauty to beast.  According to the manual this feature is for more ‘spirited driving’.  That’s an understatement.  It is best used for stop light racing and tight turn maneuvers, in my opinion.

The Track Mode is reserved for track driving only. As I understand it, you must be registered at an official track while engaging this Mode, or the warranty will be voided. Serious business.

Hopefully I won’t need to use the final Mode this coming winter.  But if I do, it’s great to know that it’s there.  The amount of driving assistance it will give to my 435HP beast is yet to be seen.

Windows down, radio up, Toggles flipped!  Ready, set, go……!

For more on the 2015 Mustang here is a quick look at the brochure.  Brought to you from ford.com.

Manns Restoration – A Kaleidoscope

IMG_1384

One of many buildings where magic happens.

In 1816, while observing objects using two mirrors, Scottish scientist David Brewster noticed patterns and colors being recreated and reformed into beautiful new arrangements. He named his invention using the following Greek words: kalos meaning beautiful, eodos meaning shape, and scopeo meaning to look at. He realized that each part of his invention had to work together in order to produce something beautiful to the eye. The Kaleidoscope was born.

And how many of us didn’t want to take one apart and see the inside when we were little?

1970 Mercedes Benz

Well, I have been lucky enough to take one apart, see how it works, and find awe in the beauty it produces. Where did I find my Kaleidoscope? At Manns Restoration in Festus, MO. This business built by Michael Mann, has a great reputation for taking a vehicle and breathing into it new life. Manns Restoration is not a small town operation. It is as big and multifaceted as they come. While serving the needs of the local community, it also boasts both national and international acclaim. It goes without saying that my visit left me amazed and in awe of the talented work that goes on at 5 North 6th Street. Click here for the history of the business.

What might you expect if you needed work done to your car, boat, or motorcycle? The process for each new client is unique, yet the same. An inventory is taken via questions regarding budget, ultimate usage of the vehicle, time frame restrictions, and level of perfection. For example will the vehicle be used for everyday driving or for show? Is there a wedding date? During its stay all details of work are documented in an individual binder and the client is kept apprised of progress throughout.

Yes, that’s Mike with Jay Leno in the picture!

Jobs of all sizes are considered-whether it’s a 2013 Grand Am fender bender or a complete recreation of a 1931 Studebaker. The entire team keeps up with the demanding challenges of the automotive world. And if they don’t have the answer on site (I’ve never seen so many manuals), you can be sure they will find it.  Mike says the internet has a purpose, but it is better to get knowledge directly from a person perfected in a particular car. Long gone are the days of visiting the local library.

As I walked through the buildings of Manns Restoration, listening to Mike give a bit of history on each of the cars, I realized that this business is much like a kaleidoscope.

The Kalos, or beauty, is Mike’s word and character. He believes that anything is possible and that doubt will kill you quicker than failure. His grandfather taught him to give his word and stand by it, eye-to-eye, handshake-to-handshake. Every customer and every car has meaning to Mike, and he knows that the end result is very important.

The Eodos, or shaping, is created by each of the amazing team members I met. Precision in the paint, artistry in the upholstery, skill in the sanding- these are just a few of the bits and pieces that turn out a product that is certainly beautiful to look at. Each building that I walked through was consistent with its proud display of the American flag, and unique in the job that it held. Though separated by walls and parking lot, each building…each artisan was connected to all of the others.

Click here to see outstanding pictures from their website detailing the different aspects of the creativity and hard work.

And the Scopeo, the observation piece, is the customer’s satisfaction and joy for a job well done. As stated on their website, Manns insures that each car leaves being ‘best in show’. The car and oftentimes its history are restored.  All the parts of the Kaleidoscope have come together.

A business built on character and handshakes, automotive artisans like no other, and a ride restored …just like the images of a kaleidescope…beautiful.

I’ve taken many drives down 61/67 in my beloved ’03 Mustang, driving right past 6th Street. Who knows, if I had known about Manns Restoration a bit sooner, Mike and his crew could have made new my ‘03.

Click here for their complete website.

A few final thoughts:  1. A huge thank you to Manns Restoration for the amazing tour of their site, and my apolozies for any inaccuracies in the article. 2.  I would certainly have taken my 2003 Gt to them and left it in their care.  This is big for me! Meaning-this is a must-have, go-to-place for all my automotive friends. 3.  Mustang Maniac is this a bit what you’re all about across the pond?
